2.1 Institute's Organization's Mandal's News / information -
On 23rd December 1941 this chess organization named Nutan Buddhibal Mandal, came into being because of the pioneering efforts of Late. Bhausaheb Rajwade, Late. Dajisaheb Dixit, Late Sopanrao Shingare, our beloved president Shri. N.V. alias Bhaurao Padsalgikar and their few other friends in memory of their friend late.Vishnu Ramchandra Rajwade. This mandal was established in order to promote popularize the game of chess conduct host tournaments of high stature, gather chess literature, and to have a complex of to own.
Initially tournaments were arranged for beginness from 1941, 1942, 1943 tournaments were being organized for players who were proficient, under the guidance of Late. Vinayakrao Khadilkar, Since 1955 under the able leadership of Late. Appakaka Khadilkar and shri Bhausaheb Padsalgikar established Southern Maratha Chess Association and extended the horizon of tournaments by arranging them every year for players from different districts of Sangli, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri , Solapur, Satara. Thereafter players of the mandal Late. B.P. Mhaiskar, Late. Shivram Natu & Bhausaheb Padsalgikar participated in different chess tournaments and bagged many prizes and Sangli's rich heritage of chess, made further Progress. On coming to know, the extraordinary success achieved by these players Shrimant Rajamata Sou. Padminiraje invited to her place / fort Late. Narayanraoji Khadilkar, Late. Appakaka Khadilkar Late. Shankarrao Mhaiskar, Late. Shivram Natu, Late. B.P. Mhaiskar, Shri. Bhausaheb Padsalgikar to play chess.

2.2 History -
Just as Sangli is a very well known for marathi dreams and is considered as 'Nataya Pandhari' so also it is recognized as Wimbledon of chess. Sangli and chess go hand in hand and one cannot be thought in isolation of the other. The legacy of chess is as old as for the last 150 to 200 years Shri. Kshetra Haripur & Sangli have given boost to many sports and are held in great esteem. Dajiba Date, Bandambhat Mehandale are the pioneers in chess. Thereafter, our ideal players was Morbhat Mehandale so also Late. Baba Bodas, Late. Vinayakrao Khadilkar, Late. Gopalrao Mujumadar, Late. Narayanrao Joshi, Late. Gangadharpant Paranjape, Shrimant Chatrapati shahu Maharaj, Shrimant Chintamanrao Appasaheb Patwardhan started shining. Late. Bandambhat Mehandale (who hails from Haripur, Which is blessed by the delta rivers Krishna & Warana) was to be rightly given the Pioneer / leader of this game of chess. A ten games match was arranged by kolhapur's late. Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj between Karnataka's mewed chess players Rachayya and Bandambhat in which Bandambhat Mehandale won the match / tournament, Kolhapur Darbar approved him of a honorarium benefit of which was passed on to his nephew Morbhatji Mehandale who was talented in this game of chess, especially very well versed in the Indian style of chess. Around 1900 this game came to be played on western & international rules. In this style of play, Late Anna Gadre, Late. Morbhat Mehandale, Late Baba, Late. Vinayakrao Khadilkar, Late. Narayanrao Joshi were considered to be the pioneers forerunners. Due to the resounding extraordinary success achieved by these players in different tournaments played in the different parts of India, Sangli became well known throughout the country and therefore Sangli was equated with chess as one could not be separated from the other or one could not be though of in isolation of the other. In 1924, British Chess Federation, invited Late. Vinayakrao Khadilkar to participate in a tournament / mach at South port in Europe, as they learnt about his extraordinary skill in this game. He is supposed to be the first Indian competitor to have played on western soil / land and citizens of Sangli are naturally proud and delighted that Sangli received such honor.
