Mandal started competitions first for the beginners. From 1941 to 1943, these competitions were arranged for the members of the mandal and for others.
From 1943 to 1947, Mandal arranged chess competition in memory of Late. Vinaykrao Khadilkar and for the competent players. But in the year 1948, Mandal was unable to arrange the competitions. Member and guide of the Mandal Mr. Vinayakrao Khadilkar passed away in1944 and Mr. Gopalrao Mujumdar passed away in 1948. Mandal started Master's Memorial competition in their memory from the year 1949. From the year 1954, Mandal started arranging these Tournaments regularly up to these time and this matches were for the districts of Sangli, Satara, Solapur, Ratnagiri and Kolhapur. In the year 1955Late Appakaka Khadilkar and bhaurao Padsalgikar founded Southern Maratha Country chess Association.
In these days, chess clocks were not available in India. So matches were not finished in time. Bhaurao Padsalgikar himself invented chess clocks and the match were played on these chess clocks. In the year 1955 in Andhra Pradesh, First National chess championship was arranged at yeller. In this Tournament members of the Mandal Late. B. P. Mhaiskar, Late Shivram Natu and Bhaurao Padsalgikar were selected and they participated in it.In this way Mandal was in progress. It was arranging various Tournaments. In the year 1968, Bhaurao Padsalgikar meet Vasantrao Vaidya and he permitted him to arrange National open chess Tournament in memory of his father " Late Shridhar Keshav Vaidya". Her highness Sou. Padminiraje patwardhan invited to the members of the mandal in the palace. Narayanrao Khadilkar, Late Appakaka Khadilkar, Late Shankarrao Mhaiskar, Late Shivaram Natu, Lata. B. P. Mhaiskar and Bhaurao Padasalgikar gathered in the palace.
