On 1st May 1968, first late Shridhar Keshav Vaidya
memorial tournament held at sangli and it was the Silver Jubilee
tournament of the Mandal. Since that year the above tournament has been
arranged for 34 years. Total amount of the prizes of the tournament in
1995 was about Rs. 70,000/-
In the year 1969 Mandal started chess tournament for the youth under19
years. It was started first of late Govinddas Shedaji. But now days those
tournaments are arranged in memory of late Kakasaheb Tikekar as the funds
have been relapsed by his son Mr. D. V. Tikakar.
Mandal decided to arrange chess tournament for Women in the year 1976
well-known Industrialist Shri. Mamasaheb Bhide and their family members
gave donation on behalf of their mother and so Late. Sou. sitabai Ramchandra
Bhide women chess tournament has been arranged by Mandal.
From the year 1976 Mandal arranged chess tournament under 16 in the memory
of Late. Sadanand Shedji, Madhavdas Shedji used to donate Rs. 600/- per
year for the Late. Sadanand Shedji chess tournament and Late. Govinddas
Shedji tournament. But due to same difficulty, these tournaments were
arranged in the memory of Shrimant Dadasaheb Gadgil saraf Shrimant Anant
Ganesh alias Dajisaheb Gadgil saraf donated Rs. 10,000/- for that purpose.
In the Golden Jubilee year of the tournaments, Dajisaheb Gadgil, Purushottam
Narayan Gadgil saraf, Pune donated Rs.15,000/- and Shri Baburao, Shri.
Arunrao and Shri. Prakashrao Gadgil family donated Rs. 10,000/- From the
interest of above total amount Fs. 25,000/- participants out of Sangli
are given meals at a low rate.
